Going Green Activity Wheel

Spin the wheel and find 31 carbon-reducing activities to help you “Go Green”.

Kids and grown ups can work together to learn more about green commutes! This fun and interactive wheel offers a new activity you can do each of the month. Go ahead and give it a spin! (Or request one by mail)

Here’s how you can do your part.

Activities List

  1. Walk, bike or skate to an activity this week.
  2. Take public transportation somewhere this week.
  3. Write down your list of errands so that you only take the car out once today.
  4. Track how much your family pays in one week for gas. Repeat next week and see if you can spend less.
  5. Complete the word puzzles on this website.
  6. Track miles driven over the next 7 days. Repeat next week and see if you can drive less.
  7. Eliminate one car trip today or tomorrow.
  8. Walk, bike, or skate to the grocery store once this week.
  9. Read Why Don’t Hydrogen Cars Fly Away? at bedtime.
  10. Fill  out the carbon calculator to see how much pollution your cars contribute.
  11. Walk, bike, or skate to school once this week.
  12. Take the bus somewhere this week.
  13. Go exploring on a bike trail.
  14. Record how many times you start your car and try to lower the amount of times the next day.
  15. Take the quiz on this website.
  16. Ride BART somewhere this week.
  17. Walk, bike, skate or carpool to the library and find out about other things that cause air pollution.
  18. Try not to drive your car(s) one day this weekend.
  19. Count how many minutes you are waiting in traffic or at red lights every day for 7 days.
  20. Watch the Sorry I’m Late video on this website.
  21. Add the miles driven for errands today and tomorrow.
  22. Think of ways you would get around if you didn’t own a car.
  23. Walk, bike or skate on a local trail and invite a friend to join you.
  24. Help your parents check the car’s tire pressure.
  25. Complete the crossword puzzle on this website.
  26. Use this website’s transit map and find out the name of the public bus that serves your community.
  27. Ride the bus or a ferry somewhere this week.
  28. Create a log of where and when you took the car over the next 7 days. Look for ways you could have saved a trip or cold start.
  29. Walk, bike, or skate to school once this week.
  30. Read the sample haikus and limericks on this website, and write one of your own.
  31. Mail your completed Going Green Participation Log form to 511 Contra Costa and receive a prize.
