You’re ready to make the switch to transit. You’ve got your route all figured out. You have your fare, maybe even a Clipper Card. You’ve even checked out a book or picked up a newspaper for the ride. You’re all ready to leave your car in the driveway and join the over 40,000 people that commute to work every day in Contra Costa County.

There’s just one thing left – that nagging sense that something could happen and you might still need your car.

Accidents, emergencies, and surprises happen every day, which is why Contra Costa County will guarantee that you can get home in an emergency if you took transit.

There are steps involved, of course. You have to fill out and submit this form in advance, and hold onto your voucher until you need it. In exchange, you can get a taxi ride or rental car if:

  • You or an immediate family member suffers an illness, injury, or severe crises
  • You are asked by a supervisor to work unscheduled overtime
  • Your ridesharing vehicle breaks down or the driver has to leave early
  • You have a break-in, flood, or fire at your home

You can use the program up to two times a month and six times a calendar year.
