Middle School Bike/Pedestrian Safety Program
Whether it’s biking around with no helmet or crossing the street without looking up, we all know that the road habits of school-aged students make them the most vulnerable population on our local streets. Peace on the Streets: Ride On! addresses this issue with a week long safety education program intended for middle school students and their parents. The program combines life-saving bicycle and pedestrian safety education with five consecutive days of activities, challenges, prizes, parent forums, and more…
Check out some of these exciting events below!
Bike Rodeos

Taught by League of American Bicyclist certified instructors, these forty minute road simulations, taught during the P.E. class, cover bike safety checks, how to properly fit a helmet, safe road behavior including understanding traffic signals and the rights of pedestrians, bicyclists, and motorists. This comprehensive course enhances the students’ understanding of personal responsibility while biking and walking in a safe and fun way!
Commute Alternative Challenge Days

Students and classes compete to maximize the use of commute alternatives on the Challenge Day. Students who bike, walk, ride transit, or carpool to school on the Challenge Day, are entered into a raffle for gift cards to local bike shops and other local businesses. The class with the highest use of commute alternatives on the Challenge Day wins a class prize.
Community Education Meeting

Important safety information, refreshments, and raffle for an iPod Shuffle-and it’s only one hour! Held either on a weeknight or weekday of the Peace on the Streets week, speakers include local police department personnel and pediatricians.
Clayton Bikes Stunt Team Assembly

The week-long program concludes with an exciting bike stunt team assembly – the assembly is also the event where the prize winning class and individual student of the Challenge Day competition are announced. The Clayton Bikes Stunt Team provides a fun and exciting event for the entire school which has been focused all week on road safety and the benefits of using transit, carpooling, biking and walking. Clayton Bikes Stunt Team’s huge tricks and high energy make them a perfect cap off to the week!
