Late Night BART Service from San Francisco: On New Years Eve, BART will run special 3-line service at 1am on the Orange, Yellow, and Blue lines. Timed transfers will be available at MacArthur, 12th St Oakland, and Bay Fair. The last East Bay bound train will run through downtown San Francisco around 1:30am. Free Rides on Transit: AC Transit, Caltrain, and SF Muni will all offer free rides starting at 8pm New Year’s Eve. AC Transit is offering free rides on all lines through 5am New Year’s Day, including AC Transit Transbay and Tempo lines. SF Muni will offer free rides on all lines until 5am New Year’s Day. Caltrain will offer free service on all trains until the last southbound train departs San Francisco at 2am.

This year, transit agencies serving Contra Costa will modify their schedules for December 25 but not Christmas Eve (December 24). On Christmas Day no service will be offered by County Connection, San Francisco Bay Ferry, SolanoExpress, SolTrans, and Vine Transit.

Tri Delta Transit Service Note: On Friday, December 22, Tri Delta Transit will provide Weekend/Holiday service.

SolanoExpress Service Note: For all weekdays from Christmas Eve through New Year’s Eve, all SolTrans lines including SolanoExpress will operate on a Saturday service schedule.

Golden Gate Bridge Turns 75!

Sunday, May 27th, will mark a significant day for the Bay Area as the Golden Gate Bridge will celebrate its 75th Anniversary! The nationally recognized landmark’s huge milestone will come with a lot of festivities and celebration.

In honor of this historic achievement a grand Golden Gate Festival will be on be held Sunday, May 27th , from 11am to 11pm with activities including: a fireworks show in the evening; a “Road Trip Through History” throughout the day in which vintage cars and motorcycles will be featured from 1937 – when the bridge was constructed – to present; live music and anniversary merchandise! For a full list of events happening on the Anniversary itself and throughout the year, see the anniversary’s event page.
Equally exciting as festivities, the anniversary will bet met with lasting site improvements: a revitalized Bridge Plaza, an upgraded Bridge Cafè (already finished), new overlooks, a Bridge Pavilion (the first in the bridge’s history) and more!
The bridge is sure to be an especially filled with visitors this Sunday, car parking will be severely limited so avoid driving at all costs– it is highly recommend you get there by foot, bike, or public  transit. There are plenty of alternatives to driving to reach the bridge festivities, be sure to check out the full list of a dozen or so transportation options that will help you get there.

2009 Holiday Hours and Services for Transit Agencies serving Contra Costa County

Need to get from Point A to Point B on public transit this holiday season? 511 Contra Costa has compiled a list of transit agencies serving the Contra Costa area and their holiday services for Dec. 24th, Dec. 25th, Dec. 31st and Jan. 1st. If a transit agency is not listed on a certain date, it is running on its normal schedule.

Thursday, December 24, 2009 – Christmas Eve:

  • Tri Delta Transit: Routes 392, 393 and 394 will operate on a Sunday schedule.
  • WestCAT routes: Exp J, 30Z, JPX & JX, and LYNX will run their regular service. The DAR and Local routes will run the regular service with 7 PM close. Route C3 will not have service.
  • Wheels: most routes will run their regular service.

Friday, December 25, 2009 – Christmas Day:

  • BART will run on its Sunday schedule.
  • WestCAT route Express J will run on its Sunday schedule.
  • AC Transit will run on a weekend schedule.
  • Tri Delta Transit: Routes 392, 393 and 394 will operate on a Sunday schedule.
  • Golden Gate Transit Bus will have Holiday Service and Golden Gate Larkspur & Sausalito Ferry will have no service.
  • The County Connection buses will not be in operation.
