Major progress being made at East Portal

The wall shown in the photos below will eventually become the east portal wall. According to Caldecott-tunnel.org, most walls are built from the base upwards.

Updates on Portal and Retaining Walls being built

Construction crews are busy at work on the east and west sides of the tunnel, building the portal walls and retaining walls to hold back the hillsides. Most of this work has to be completed before excavation of the tunnel can actually begin.
