We are proud to introduce a new tool for bike riders called the 511 Contra Costa Bike Mapper. This easy to use mapping service allows users to create customized bike routes for anywhere in the Bay Area. Whether you need to get somewhere quickly or want to ride mostly on bike paths, the Bike Mapper should help point you in the right direction.

What distinguishes the 511 Contra Costa Bike Mapper from other bike mapping services is that it provides a complete elevation profile for your trip.

Are you the type of biker who wants to stay mostly on bike paths and avoid hills? Select the “avoid at all costs” option from the Hill Reluctance menu and check out the indicated Bike Friendly (and the Most Bike Friendly) route. Or, if you’d like to burn some extra calories on your weekend ride, select the “Bring on the Hills!” option instead. Riders can also view the Direct Route if they feel more comfortable riding on busier roads or wish to compare distance and elevation with bike friendly routes.

Now stop reading and try it out for yourself! Here’s a screencast demo to help get you started:
