Wheel chair folks need a more systematic approach to where and how to travel safely on BART. Perhaps more fold up seating areas near the doors where they can park and still be oriented in the direction of travel, rather than risk tipping over in an emergency stop.

In general the area near the doors is too restricted and crowded. Perhaps there should be some cars on each train that are designed as priority cars for alternative types of transportation like bikes and wheelchairs. The exterior of such cars should be clearly marked so that riders know which car will best suit their need.

If, as some other comments suggest, the overall design of the cars is to be examined, then opening up more access points, i.e. more doors, would be a great advantage to getting on and off the trains. Since half the passengers are standing during commute times, anyway, the elimination of a few more seats for better access would make little difference in rider comfort.

As an able bodied non-bike riding BART rider, I think the whole system of train access and on-board seating for wheelchair users and bike riders needs to be rethought. The cars need some sort of flexible seating and storage for bikes. Perhaps a section of each car with verticle racks on the wall that hold bikes and fold down jump seats for the bikers. Bikes are an important part of the new transit mix and should not be an afterthought.

I think instead of re-outfitting the interior per say, I want to see newer and sleeker exterior designs. Designs that match the technological advancements that reflect bullet train/maglev designs
