Don’t Miss Remaining Transit Month Events

Transit Month is drawing to a close, but there are still plenty of ways to celebrate – either by joining official Transit Month events or taking transit to local happenings. Here’s what’s coming up in the next week:

Saturday 9/27 – “Rosie Ride” – Ferry Ride from SF to Richmond & Meet Real-Life “Rosies”: On Saturday, the 3rd Annual Rosie Ride will head from San Francisco across the bay to the Rosie the Riveter WWII Home Front National Historical Park on the Richmond waterfront. The history-packed adventure will sail past historic points of interest along the Richmond waterfront – with volunteer guides from the National Park Service – a tour of the Rosie the Riveter museum, and a chance to meet two living legends who were real life Rosies! RSVP here to reserve your free spot (ferry tickets not included).

Saturday 9/27 – Take Transit to Pleasant Hill’s Community Service Day: Community Service Day starts off at 7:30am at Pleasant Hill Park, where volunteers gather to meet their teams, get their FREE volunteer t-shirts, and have a fabulous breakfast provided by the Lions Club of Pleasant Hill. After the breakfast, teams will head out to their locations for project work from 9am to noon. Volunteers can sign up now for one of 19 projects around the City. Sign up to volunteer at philca.gov/csdvolunteer. County Connection can take you to the event – plan your trip at countyconnection.com.

Sunday 9/28 – Bay Bridge Trail Anniversary Ride: Bike East Bay is celebrating the 12th anniversary of the Bay Bridge Trail with a group ride. It will start at MacArthur BART and go out and back on the Bay Bridge Trail, then head north on the San Francisco Bay Trail and end at Richmond BART. You’re invited to join Bike East Bay afterward for food and drink at Armistice Brewing in Richmond. An official Transit Month event, this ride is transit accessible, starting and ending at BART stations. Ride is ~22 miles. View the ride route and RSVP

Monday 9/30 – Transit Month Wrap Party: Enjoy Transit Month wrap party featuring the premiere of the short film, “Stop Request” from local filmmakers Felix Milionis and Jean-Pierre Diemer. “Stop Request” documents their attempt to ride all Muni routes within 24 hours. Your RSVP includes admission to Open Decks: Community Art in Motion, a collaborative art exhibition and cultural program featuring original art by 100 Bay Area artists on skateboard decks. Getting There: We recommend taking BART/MUNI, exiting at Montgomery, and walking two blocks north to the venue. Event Details

Four Reasons to Ride Transit on September 23

You might know that September is Transit Month, but did you know Tuesday the 23rd is All Aboard Transit Day? It’s the day transit agencies encourage people to ride their systems to experience recent service and customer experience improvements, including the Big Sync.

All Aboard on September 23 for Transit Day

In addition to the usual reasons people choose transit – like saving money, not having to drive, and reclaiming commuting time for reading, working, or relaxing – on Tuesday there are a few more reasons to ride:

1. Prizes for Riding BART: On the morning of All Aboard Transit Day, BART staff will be stationed throughout the system to hand out special stickers to riders. If staff see you wearing the sticker later in the day, they’ll gift you some BART swag (while supplies last).

2. $10 Peet’s Coffee Gift Card: Tuesday, September 23, is a Spare the Air Day. To encourage people to take transit Tuesday, our Big Win on Transit program is awarding the first 100 people to log a Tuesday transit trip a $10 Peet’s gift card. If you’re 18+ and live or work in Contra Costa County, the first step is to sign up for Big Win on Transit. After taking a transit trip on Tuesday that goes to, from, or through Contra Costa, log it with the mobile-friendly Big Win dashboard by Sunday night. PRO TIP: You can log your trip the same day you take it, so the sooner you submit your trip, the better your chances of grabbing a gift card.

3. Free Rides on All WestCAT Lynx Buses: Lynx service turns 20 this month! To thank their loyal passengers, WestCAT is offering free rides on the Lynx through September. Just board the bus and ride free.

4. Transit Month Ride Contest: Sign up for the Ride Contest and log your transit trips to earn entries in prize drawings. Each transit trip is worth a raffle entry, so the more you take transit, the better your chances of winning. BONUS: Transit trips logged on WestCAT, Tri Delta Transit, or County Connection enter you in an additional raffle to win a $25, $50, or $75 Clipper card from 511 Contra Costa.
