On Wednesday, AC Transit officials cut service for the transit agency by 7.2 percent, eliminating Line 61 in Oakland and transbay Line BA and trimming service on another 40 of its 113 lines. The service reductions will begin in August 2010.
Line 61 was the least used in Oakland, according to officials, with just 5 riders per bus trip. Although Line BA will be eliminated, other transbay lines still exist and can be taken by those needing to cross the Bay, although the route may be less convenient.
The board also resolved not to make further service cuts through 2012–having already reduced service by 8.4 percent in March–but the resolution is not binding.
