Join the Winter Walk Challenge

The 2026 Winter Walk Challenge is underway! Join the 2,500+ walkers exploring their neighborhoods on foot. It’s not too late to join the fun, so sign up and invite your family, friends, and neighbors.

How does it work? A new Walking Challenge will arrive in your inbox each week, and you’ll send us a snapshot from your walk that meets the challenge. Bike Champion of the Year Nominations

In preparation for National Bike Month, February is the time when nominations are accepted from each Bay Area county for Bike Champion of the Year. Champion nominees can be inspiring cyclists, policymakers, educators, or advocates that make the Bay Area a better place to live and bike. If that sounds like someone you know, nominate your Contra Costa County Bike Champion today!

Nominations close February 28. Winners will be announced at the end of April, just in time to be celebrated during Bike to Wherever Days in May.

Sign Up for a Guaranteed Ride Home

Want to commute to work or college without having to drive, but worry about getting home in an emergency? If so, Guaranteed Ride Home is for you. To be eligible, you need to commute by walking, biking, taking transit, carpooling, or vanpooling and work or attend college in Contra Costa County.

Guaranteed Ride Home will reimburse you for your trip home when dealing with emergencies like a personal illness, sick child, or missed carpool. Register now and you’ll be ready when an emergency strikes. There’s no cost to sign up and we’ll reimburse you for up to six Guaranteed Rides Home each year.

Who to Contact: Bike Improvements & Safety Issues

Contra Costa County has an incredible biking community and an extensive trail system, but there’s always more that can be done to improve the landscape for cyclists. It can be confusing to know who to contact when you see a safety issue, have a suggestion for a bike lane in your neighborhood, or want to connect with other cyclists to advocate for the cycling community.

For help with safety issues in your city, it’s best to start by contacting the Transportation, Traffic Engineering, or Public Works Department listed on your city’s website. In addition, 511 Contra Costa has a list of resources that can help as well.

• The Contra Costa Transportation Authority and many Contra Costa cities hold regular bicycle, traffic safety, and/or transportation meetings that are open to the public. Residents are welcome to attend, provide input, review projects, and apply for citizen positions. Find a list here.
• There are more than a dozen bike clubs in our region. Check them out to find opportunities for involvement in your community.
