I-680 construction underway

Are you in one of the 170,000 vehicles that passes across I-680 every day? Is your suspension still reeling from the potholes and cracks? You’re in luck.
Caltrans began work in January rehabilitating 12.8 miles of freeway from Alcosta to Rudgear. Caltrans is also expanding the HOV lane on the southbound side about one mile form Livorna Road to just short of Rudgear Road.
Both projects are expected to finish in spring 2012.
Most construction will take place at night, and barriers will be in place during the day, but don’t forget to “Slow for the Cone Zone.”
The general work windows vary slightly by location.

With 7,300 cubic yards of pre-cast concrete, this will be the largest application of this innovative treatment in the US. Pre-cast slabs are expected to reduce the need for long-term maintenance, and can be driven over immediately – no need for drying time.
$72 million of the rehabilitation and HOV project is funded by the CA State Funding for Roadway Rehabilitation (SHOPP) program, plus $1.8 million from Contra Costa County Measure J (half-cent sales tax).
