You love the A’s, and you love BART, but do you have what it takes to be the A’s BART rider of the game?
Each month, the A’s challenge the creativity of their BART-riding fans. One winner to receive:
- Two MVP tickets to the Wednesday, August 17 game vs the Baltimore Orioles
- A $50 BART ticket
- Early field access to batting practice, pre-game
- A ride around the field in the BARTmobile right before the game starts
- Your face highlighted on the scoreboard during the game
This month’s challenge? Compose the lyrics to your very own song: “Take BART Out to the Ballgame”. For reference, here’s the original seventh inning anthem:
“Take me out to the ball game,
Take me out with the crowd.
Buy me some peanuts and cracker jack,
I don’t care if I never get back,
Let me root, root, root for the home team,
If they don’t win it’s a shame.
For it’s one, two, three strikes, you’re out,
At the old ball game.”
To enter, submit your original, rewritten stanza via email to youwin2@bart.gov or by mail to “A’s FAN, BART RIDER,” Attention: BART Marketing Department, 300 Lakeside Dr., Oakland, CA 94612. Entries must be received by August 8 to be eligible. Check out BART’s website for full contest rules.
For inspiration, meet the previous winner, Melissa Wong.
The challenge was to caption a cartoon showing a man and a boy in A’s fan gear, both pointing to a map of the BART system with an A’s logo in the middle.
She remembers thinking, “I bet I could do this, and by dinner I had an idea,”. Her caption reads, “Dad, do A’s fans take BART to the ballpark?” “Absolutely son, it is part of being GREEN and gold.”
It gets even better: on the day Melissa and Stomper rode on the BARTMobile as part of the A’s BART Rider of the Game celebration, the A’s beat the Seattle Mariners 2-0.
