Bike Commuting Basics & Street Riding Safety

Our one-hour video class – helpful to both cyclists and drivers – is taught by a League of American Bicyclists-certified instructor.

The class covers the rules of the road for drivers and cyclists, helps you improve your bike handling skills, and will build your confidence for cycling on city streets.

Other topics include:

  • Simple bike adjustments for safety and comfort
  • Where to position yourself when riding on the street
  • Taking your bike on transit and using onboard bike racks
  • Local resources for in-person and on-bike instruction

Safe Biking in Traffic

Our second one-hour Bike Safety Class was offered in January 2022 and took a deeper dive into the nitty-gritty of navigating street traffic on a bicycle.

Topics included how to communicate with drivers, proper lane positioning, and understanding bike-related road markings such as bike boxes, green merge lines, and others. It also shared how to merge with vehicle traffic, how and when to “take the lane,” common errors inexperienced cyclists make when riding in traffic, and driver behaviors that cyclists should anticipate. This free class was led by a certified League of American Bicyclists instructor. Click below to see the slides from the class.
