Great Weather Creates High Bike to Work Day Turnout Thousands of East Bay residents pedaled to work on Thursday, May 10 to celebrate the 24th annual Bay Area Bike to Work Day. Morning counts taken at East Bay Energizer Stations tallied 19,800 people either stopping in or rolling by. In Contra Costa alone, over 4,000 riders were counted. This October, 511 Contra Costa is offering cash rewards to commuters who try a greener way to get to work.  Trade driving alone for a more eco-friendly alternative and get rewarded with $25, $50… maybe even $100 in the Text-Your-Commute Challenge! For three weeks in October, participants will log their commute choices (e.g. carpool, bike + train) by responding to twice-daily texts, accumulating points for each ‘clean’ trip they make.
